This is one of the most common questions I am asked, and my answer usually surprises. The short answer is you don’t have to have your systems and processes well documented, but you do need to have them.
All trading businesses have systems and processes for the day-to-day functions and operations. These are one of the first things you develop when you start the business, although, what you start with and what you end up with are often very different. That’s because hopefully as you progress and your business grows, your systems and processes become more efficient and streamlined, allowing you to become more profitable in how you deliver your product or service to the market.
The majority of clients we work with have developed robust, profitable business models, but haven’t had time to sit down and document the internal processes and procedures that underpin that model.
